Ashes from the Fire
Start by pulling him out of the fire and
hoping that he will forget the smell.
He was supposed to be an angel but they took him
from that light and turned him into something hungry,
something that forgets what his hands are for when they
aren’t shaking.
He will lose so much, and you will watch it all happen
because you had him first, and you would let the world
break its own neck if it means keeping him.

~
Gabriel hit an all time low when he came back to you. It was purely coincidental that the first person he saw in his darkest hours could pull him from the fire.
You cared for the now human, archangel, and desperately tried to bring him back from the pits of hell.
He’d been through too much. Heaven’s angels captured him, turned him into a starving, pitiful human, and broke him. The light that once lit up entire rooms had vanished from his eyes and his smile. Gabriel’s charismatic personality was cracked and had been sanded down into nothing.
In that cold, dark cell, Gabriel’s nightmares came true. They tortured him to the point of breaking, and even beyond that. Every second that he was alone, his hands shook and his mind went crazy.
You watched him from the doorway of his room every night as he screamed and shouted your name. You’d silently enter the room and lay next to him, holding him to your chest. It always seemed to calm him down.

He needed you, and you needed him. But it was going to take awhile before Gabriel would be on his feet again.
