Healing Hurts

A/N: Guys, I can’t help it. There’s just so mamy Gabe feels going around right now. (What is wrong with me)

His wings. The shadow gave away none of the actual horrors that only you could see. They were bloodied, torn in some spots, bald in others. It was a nightmare come true.

You felt the muscles in his shoulders tense slightly as you grazed a finger over the base of the wings.

“I’m sorry,” you whispered, afraid that raising your voice any higher would scare him off.

“It wasn’t your fault,” Gabriel replied, equally as soft.

Your lips formed into a tight line.

“I could have… I should’ve known.”

You lightly brush a loose feather aside and watch as it gently floats to the sheets beside you.

“There was no way you could have. I had myself warded; to protect you,” his voice was still hoarse and rough from years of silence.

“They were after me,” he continued, “I couldn’t have them after you, too.”

Your hands make their way to a particularly damaged spot of the wings, and you dab it with a wet cloth.

“I’d have fought a thousand angels to keep you from this horror,” you respond solemnly.

Gabriel’s head slightly turns back to gaze at you as he nods.

“I know.”

You flashback to the many lonely nights you spent crying and mourning over the archangel’s death. None of that seemed to matter now.

One wing takes close to an hour to get somewhere close to normal, and the other, though not as bad, about half the time.

You carefully rest your forehead on the back of Gabriel’s neck, right above where his wings start. His presence and yours intertwine into such a lovesick moment that you find it hard to not tear up.

“I’m here now,” he reassures, moving just slow enough to face you.

You hold back the tears forming in your eyes and give a small smile.

“I should be telling you that.”

Gabriel rolls his eyes playfully, wrapping his arms around your waist. He pulls you tight against your chest, and you know he’s afraid of losing you again, too.

Can I have your attention please?

Gabriel was entitled to leave if he wanted.

He just went through terrible trauma, and needs time to heal. A power up of grace, isn’t gonna fix whatever it’s going on in his mind. Making him part of “the team” because they need him, isn’t gonna make him better either.

He owes nothing to the Winchesters, or the world.

Yes, Ketch saved him for leverage with the Winchesters. But TFW wanted him for his grace, and needed him to heal ASAP for him to deal with all the mess they’ve made.

Of course he was going to leave. I would’ve been upset if he’d said yes right away.

It was one of the few things Bucklemming got right about his character. Whoever says it isn’t, or that he’s a coward, can catch these hands.

Thanks for your attention.

You are on a roll with pointing these things out lately! But also, that’s me ^
