You stepped in the room a moment before noticing the walls.
“Enochian,” you breathe, carefully glancing down at the wounded archangel.
“Sam, Cas, you might want to see this!” You called.
The two came to your voice in just a few seconds, seeming worried. Their eyes foew to the dark ink that covered the walls.
“It’s Enochian,” Sam mumbled.
You sigh, “I know that, genius. Cas, what does it say?”
Cas trails a hand down a few of the symbols and glances around the rest of the room.
“It’s his story of after his death.”
You nod, utterly silent.
Just as Cas opened his mouth to tell the tale, Sam’s phone went off unexpectedly. The youngest Winchester’s gaze falls to the loud device to check for an ID. It’s completely blank.
He presses the speaker button and answers the phone.
“Hello?”
The voice on the other end is one all of you are too familiar with. Nothing can stray your hatred for that deep Southern accent.
“Sam Winchester? It’s Asmodeus. I believe you have something that belongs to me. Now, I’ll ask kindly for you to hand it over.”
Everyone in the room glances at a very distraught and traumatized Gabriel. He begins shaking his head and you have to hold him against your chest for his panic attack to stop.
“Not gonna happen,” Sam grits his teeth and frowns.
“Well then. You all have ten minutes to hand him over before I burn down that bunker and take him myself.”
You physically gulped as Sam hung up on the Prince of Hell.
“What are we going to do? It’s not like we have a fully charged archangel right now to help. And Asmodeus is too strong for us to take,” you mutter, placing your face in your hands. Losing Gabriel again wasn’t something you could deal with right now.
Cas raises an eyebrow and pulls the vial of archangel grace from his coat pocket. Sam eyes it warily; you can tell he’s skeptical.
You take the initiative of Cas’ idea, grab the vial and hand it to Gabriel.
“Maybe he just needs to charge up, like a battery,” you add, with a hint of humor.
Gabriel carefully holds onto the grace and a hint of a smile grazes his face. He brings the glass to his lips, letting the bright blue light enter his body.
His eyes close for a split second before they open to search yours.
“Anything?” You quietly hope.
Gabriel shakes his head in defeat.
That’s when the red, flashing sirens went off.
Everyone is the room goes into a silent, controlled panic. Sam and Cas bolt out the door towards the war room. You glance at Gabriel hesitantly, and the two of you follow.
Once all of you are in the main room, a couple demons jump out from the darkness and attack. You protect Gabriel from one demon’s grasp, stabbing it in the chest. Sam and Cas fight with the second one, easilg taking it down as well.
It didn’t seem like much of assault, but then again…
Just as a flutter of hope entered your mind, a white-suited body stepped into the light.
“Long time no see, fellas,” his attention turns to you, “And lady.”
Asmodeus’ hand flicks up.
Sam, Cas and yourself were all tossed against the wall. Asmodeus chuckled darkly.
A group of demons huddles around the archangel. The creatures carries Gabriel up the stairs and toward the door.
Everything seemed to be happening so quickly.
“Now for you three…”
Your throat began to close, and you assumed so did the boys’. You clawed at the invisible hands, desperate for air. Your eyes darted wildly to Gabriel and you silently plead to everything out there for help.
Just as the lights begin to dim, a bright blue glow emanates from the balcony.
Asmodeus loses his hold on the three of you to see what the commotion is. His eyes widen at the sight.
“Gabriel, what are you doing, boy? I broke you!”
The demons around the archangel dissipate into nothing and you can see the grace in him. He’s back.
Gabriel snaps his fingers and Asmodeus starts fo burst into flames.
“By the way, I always hated that dumbass suit.”
In an instant, the prince of hell turns into a pile of ash on the concrete floor.
You take deep breaths, trying to steady your racing heartbeat. Gabriel’s eyes fade back to their normal hazel color and he makes his way down the stairs.
As you’re pulling yourself up to a stand, you feel a pair of arms wrap around your midsection. The immediate scent of candy wafts from the archangel embracing you.
You return the hug as tears form in the corners of your eyes.
Gabriel leans his chin onto your shoulder and whispers something in your ear that Sam and Cas can’t hear.
You don’t seem shocked; all you do is nod solemnly.
With that, Gabriel disappears without saying anything to the boys.
His words ring in the back of your mind.
I’ve got to go, but I’ll be back this time.
