You felt the blood pumping your head and your vision grew darker. Your knees buckled, causing you to fall.
–
“Y/n, hey, Y/n,” a voice called, sounding muffled and distant.
You opened your eyes, black spots dotting your view. The face you saw made you smile.
“Rich, you’re here.”
He nodded, grinning right back at you.
You rubbed your eyelids with your fingers to get rid of the blurred vision. As soon as you removed your hands from in front of your face, you frowned.
Ruth was standing by you, listening to the distressed conversations while also checking on you. When she noticed that you were awake, her lip quirked up a bit.
“Thank goodness you’re alright.”
You turned your head quickly, but it made everything turn black again.
“Where’s Rich? He was just here.”
Ruth gazed warily behind you before kneeling down.
“Honey, he’s been missing since last night. Are you alright?”
She tried telling you to stay seated but you were in a rush. You jumped up despite the ache in your head and scanned the room. It had to be some kind of sick joke.
You saw only a few people still around: Kim and Briana talking to a police officer and then Ruth who was beside you.
The thought of Rich being lost made you want to throw up your insides, or maybe it was the drinks you’d had last night. Maybe even both.
You heard the officer say a few things to Kim and Briana before glancing at you and pointing a questioning finger your way. The two women nodded, to which the cop made his way to you.
“Hello, ma’am. I’d like to ask you a few things about your missing friend.”
You teetered slightly, holding onto the couch behind you for support.
“Do you know where he is?”
The cop eyed you suspiciously, but continued, “We’re looking for him right now. I need to know if you have any information that could help us.”
You opened your mouth to respond, but heard a crackling of a radio and the muffled words of someone talking. The policeman grabbed the device from his vest pocket and listened for the words again.
The voice coming from the radio was just quiet enough that only the cop could hear it. Whatever it was must have been important since he excused himself immediately and left the room.
